Cultural History

There are two most popular types of rastafarians the Nyahbinghi and the Bobo Ashanti which both have basically the same beliefs. Some will say rastafarian is a religion but it is not acturally a religion its a "way of life."

Rastafarians eat natural earth produce like nuts an grains an a wide variety of greens. Their type of cooking is called Ital which contains no form of sodium. Rasta Food is about simplicity and sustainability.Boiled green banana, roast breadfruit, yams, coco, plantain and ackee are some of the rasta ital staple food crops. Herbs like thyme and basil, spices like pimento, cinnamon and paprika are used to season the foods.Rastas avoid salt, oil and meat, chemical food, alcohol, cigarettes and drugs, herb is not considered a drug also pork is not eaten.

Rastafarians cook on wood fire and using a clay pot which is normally made by them, ital as part of  the tradition an should be cook naturally, the foods is eaten from a calabash that comes from local trees.

Another big parts of the rastafarian culture is music, many rastafarians communicate via music because it helps them to meditate and get their thoughs together it also keeps one in tune with themself, some popular rastafarian musics are skank an reggae which are all positive music

Another big thing for rastafarian is not only to give all thanks and praises to the most high jah but also the their mothers and ladies in their lives, these ladies would always be treated like the royalty they are and be given top respect at all times.

A rasta woman is refered to as Empress which simply means the queen of a king or a virtuous woman.  A Rastafarian Empress dresses modestly in clothes which do not reveal the beauty of her body to the casual observer. She is one who respects her self and is conscious of her surroundings.

Prov. 31:10-13, 26-31

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands." "She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates."

A woman who does not fit the creteria to be considered as an empress is refered to as Daugther, she still gets respect but needs to improve her personality to earn full respect
